How We Finish Your Furniture
| We are happy to finish your new furniture for you and
hope you will enjoy it for years to come! First
of all, the piece is examined and necessary disassembly done. All
drawers, doors, and hardware parts are numbered and labeled to insure
they go back to the right place when reassembled. Next, hand and power
sanding is performed to insure a smooth and flawless surface to receive
the stain. The stain is hand applied; or, if you have chosen paint, the
color is sprayed on. With a stained item, when thoroughly dry, the first
topcoat is evenly sprayed over the colored surface. After drying
completely, the entire piece is hand buffed with a very fine sanding
sponge and then hand rubbed to remove dust. This process is repeated for
a total of 3 coats of topcoat. With paint finishes, 2-3 coats of paint
and one coat of topcoat are applied with hand buffing and rubbing
between each coat.
Your furniture will be ready to use when you receive
it from us. However, the topcoat will be
fully cured in 30 days. We ask that you pamper it for the first
month for his reason. |
Furniture Care
 |
Always clean your furniture with a dry, soft,
lint-free cloth. Do not allow moisture to remain on your furniture, as
it will eventually seep through the finish even though it is
water-resistant. You may use mild dish soap or Murphy's Oil Soap in
water for an occasional cleaning. Be sure you dry the surface to a clear
sheen afterwards. Use quality furniture oil/wax such as Lemon or Orange
Oil to restore luster and protect the finish. |
* Products such as Pledge, Windex or any
product with silicone or ammonia are NOT recommended.
|
* Never use products containing ammonia
on water base finishes.
|
* Solvents, alcohol, nail polish and
remover can cause irreversible damage to the finish.
|
* Avoid placing hot objects directly on
the surface, and keep your furniture away from heating devices.
|
* Avoid direct sunlight, as it will cause
the finish to fade.
|
* When writing on a wood surface, always
protect it with a writing pad.
|
| * Polishes such as lemon oil or orange oil
work well for routine maintenance. The following are some tips on the
different types of polishes. |
Butcher Block Oil
 |
Butcher Block Oil is the preferred method to maintain
butcher blocks or any other surface that comes into contact with food such
as salad bowls, cutting boards and wooden utensils. Our product is made
from FDA approved mineral oil
|
Oil and Wax
 |
Oil and Wax has the same citrus base as orange oil with the
addition of natural beeswax. Its recommended use is on Danish Oil finishes
that do not employ a surface sealing finish. The oils will penetrate into
the wood while the wax seals the surface, maintaining a beautiful, rich
luster.
|
Satin Finishing Wax
 |
Satin Finishing Wax (natural or dark) is a dual-purpose
product. It can be used as a polish for rubbing out new finishes or as a
scratch remover for worn surfaces. It works well over both oil and water
based finishes, including Danish Oil. We recommend a wet sanding process
followed by buffing to a soft silky sheen. |
Furniture Cleaner
 |
Furniture Cleaner is our strongest heavy duty cleaner with
a mineral spirits base and is designed for serious cleaning applications.
Apply with a 0000 grade steel wool to remove old oils, wax and grease from
any wood surface. After the surface is clean, apply General Finish's
topcoats or Satin Wax to bring back luster.
